President Says, Support Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic!
By Joy Dixon Robinson, MD
President, Virginia Society of Ophthalmology
The Board of the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology would like to
encourage and urge our members to support Prevent Blindness Mid-
Atlantic’s 3 year Expanded Vision Campaign. Prevent Blindness
Mid-Atlantic (formerly known as Prevent Blindness Virginia before
its extension to include Virginia, DC and Maryland area) is the only
regional nonprofit organization that is solely dedicated to the
detection and prevention of early vision problems. Their programs
and screenings have saved the sight of thousands of children and
adults since 1957. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) have provided funding to Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic to
pilot an educational program for active seniors. Some of their goals
are: development and expansion of work regarding the aging eye,
increased availability of certified vision screenings in children, adult
vision services, risk assessments and low vision support. Prevent
Blindness has as its primary mission to preserve sight and prevent
blindness. Please consider an annual gift of $100 for the 3 years of
the campaign or a one time gift of $300 to provide full support to the
efforts of the Prevent Blindness Expanded Vision Campaign.
