As Superintendent of Powhatan County
Public Schools for nearly twenty years, nothing thrills me more than
seeing children excited about reading. We were blessed with the opportunity
this past spring to pilot READ TO SEE, a brand new program developed
by Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic. READ TO SEE is a school-based
program that beautifully accomplishes four major goals. It
encourages reading, educates parents about the important role good
vision plays in education, involves students in improving their
community and raises money for both the school that participates and
the sight-saving programs of Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic.
Prevent Blindness
Mid-Atlantic works with more than 1,500 school nurses across the
region to screen more than 360,000 children in schools every year.
This screening program is at no cost to the schools and provides the
necessary training and equipment for school nurses to fulfill and
enhance the mandated vision screenings for children in public
schools. I urge you to
further examine the benefits of READ TO SEE. Encourage excitement
about reading while raising funds to support your own school and
critical vision screenings. Learn more today by logging onto Prevent
Blindness Mid-Atlantic’s website – www.TheEyeSite.org
