What Participants Gain
- Maintained Independence
- Increased Self-Awareness
- Awareness of Available Resources
- Prevention Information
- Network of Support
- Tips for living with low vision
|
EYEWATCH® was started in 1988 as a support group for seniors living with low vision. Since then it
has evolved into an educational program aimed at prevention
and awareness of the many eye diseases that are faced by
today's aging adults.
The EYEWATCH® program has been designed as a continuing
program, using a trained facilitator to deliver scheduled
meetings, covering a set curriculum. Whether informing
participants about eye diseases (symptoms, prevention, etc.),
educating them about available community resources, or simply
offering support to those already suffering from vision loss,
EYEWATCH® is a valued resource for any aging adult. EYEWATCH® provides seniors and their care givers information
on:
- age related vision disorders
- services that are available
- the latest medical advances
- preventative measures to encourage appropriate management of conditions
EYEWATCH® is also a valuable social outlet and support group for seniors in need.
Statistical information regarding the "baby boomer" population is
steadily pouring into the health industry, and information shows that
blinding disorders such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD),
Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Cataracts will soon be at an
all-time high. It is the mission of Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic to
preserve sight and prevent blindness through screenings and public
education; however, until there is a medical cure, age related vision
impairments are health issues that will inevitably face many seniors. ( If you are looking for the EyeWatch® Facilitator Resource Center, it is on this page. )
